The Giant’s Shoulders #6 is up!

December 16, 2008

The sixth edition of The Giant’s Shoulders is up at Rigorous Trivialities! Many thanks to Charles for putting it together!

The next edition is scheduled for release on January 15th, at The Questionable Authority.

And don’t forget the aforementioned banner contest!  If you’ve got artistic talent and want to see a better banner at the top of this page, we’d love to post it!

12 days until The Giant’s Shoulders #6! and a contest

December 3, 2008

We’re less than a half-a-month away from the deadline for The Giant’s Shoulders #6, to be held at Rigorous Trivialities on December 15th.

Entries can be submitted through blogcarnival.com or directly to the host blog, as usual!

Take a look at the banner at the top of the blog page.  Not very impressive, is it?  I threw that together myself over a weekend, but clearly we can do better!  I hereby announce the ‘design the new TGS banner’ contest: if you think you can make a better banner, give it a shot and email it to me (gg), along with a description of what your banner represents.

We’ll do a post including all the submitted entries and let the readers vote on their favorite, or favorites (if we get several great choices, I’ll see if I can make a ‘rotating’ banner image).  A permanent page will be made giving credit to the winning banner design, and will also include all acceptable submissions we receive (so that your work isn’t for nothing).  ‘Acceptable’ submissions are those that are obviously related to the topic of classic science/history of science.  The banner dimensions are 760×200 pixels, it should ideally be in jpg or gif format, and the middle of the banner should leave space for the text.

Let’s make Jan 1st, 2009 be the deadline for banner entries.  Let me know if you have any questions!
