Giants’ Shoulders #47 is visiting the Medical Heritage Library

May 23, 2012

The Medical Heritage Library has invited Giants’ Shoulders the history of science blog carnival to visit and has made its visitor feel very much at home. Hanna Clutterbuck has put together a bumper crop of choice history of science bloggage for your delectation. Pop over pull up a chair or a lectern and read the best history of science that the Internet has thrown up in the last month in Giants’ Shoulders #47.

Next months carnival Giants’ Shoulders #48 completes four years of histsci collected bloggage if we can only find a host! If you want the honour of hosting this historical edition then contact Thony C at The Renaissance Mathematicus or DrSkySkull at Skulls in the Stars.

The Giant’s Shoulders #47 is up at The Medical Heritage Library!

May 23, 2012

A week delayed, but worth the wait:  the 47th edition of The Giant’s Shoulders history of science blog carnival is up at The Medical Heritage Library!  In this edition, you can read about:

  • the politics of Isaac Newton’s knighthood,
  • the gruesome history of eating corpses as medicine,
  • the story of  Lady Mary Montagu, who introduced smallpox innoculation to London,
  • the Great New York Starvation Challenge of 1881,
  • and much more!

A very hearty thanks to Hannah for assembling such a nice carnival!

Once again, we have run out of hosts for future editions of the carnival!  If you are willing to host a future edition (including and especially June), please let myself or ThonyC, the carnival organizers, know!  You can either send an email or leave a comment on this post.

Giants’ Shoulders #47 has gone missing!

May 21, 2012

If you have been paying attention you might have noticed that the history of science blog carnival Giants’ Shoulders #47 failed to appear as previously announced on 16th May. Due to organisational problems it has in fact been delayed and will now be appearing at The Medical Heritage Library on the coming Wednesday 23rd May.

We are still (desperately!) looking for a host for Giants’ Shoulders #48 due on 16th June and all future editions of course. If you have a blog and want to host the one and only history of science blog carnival then please contact either Thony C at The Renaissance Mathematicus or the legendary Dr SkySkull at Skulls in the Stars.
